How to Take Care of Your Mental Health After an Abortion

Talk about it. Abortion is a tough decision. Whether you felt immediate relief, regret, or something in between, talking to someone who cares and understands can help you sort through what you’ve experienced. We provide free after abortion support for anyone who needs a judgment-free space to talk about their decision and how they are feeling.

Know the warning signs of emotional distress. This can include but is not limited to regret, grief, depression, anxiety, or guilt. Some women also experience trauma related to the date of their abortion or the anniversary of what would have been their due date. Every woman feels differently but knowing the symptoms will help you seek care and heal emotionally.

Seek help immediately if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harming someone else. The National Hotline for Abortion Recovery is available to assist you via phone at 866-482-5433 or online: www.nationalhelpline.org.
