Abortion Pill Information

What Is The Abortion Pill?

The abortion pill is a chemical abortion that can terminate a pregnancy without an abortion clinic procedure.

The abortion pill is FDA-approved up through the first ten weeks of pregnancy. Before you take the abortion pill, it is important to confirm the following:

  • Your pregnancy is viable.
  • Your pregnancy is intrauterine.
  • Your estimated due date or how far along you are.

Approximately 20% of pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. We can confirm the viability of your pregnancy with an ultrasound. An ultrasound will also verify whether your pregnancy is intrauterine or not and help detect an ectopic pregnancy. While we do not provide or refer for abortion services, we can provide answers and options so you can make a fully informed choice.

Who Can Take The Abortion Pill?

Women with certain medical conditions, have allergies to drugs used in the abortion pill regime, have an ectopic pregnancy, or who are more than 10 weeks pregnant are not eligible for the abortion pill.

The abortion pill is ineffective in the case of an ectopic pregnancy, which is a pregnancy that occurs within the fallopian tube or somewhere else in a woman’s body other than the uterus.

An ectopic pregnancy, if left untreated, can cause the fallopian tube to rupture, resulting in lethal bleeding. Abortion procedures are not used to treat ectopic pregnancies. A separate surgical procedure is necessary to treat an ectopic pregnancy.

If you attempt a medical abortion after 10 weeks of pregnancy, the chance of an incomplete abortion, infection, or unaffected pregnancy significantly increases.

Note: If you are Rh-negative, be sure to tell your healthcare provider so you can get the necessary treatment after an abortion.

How Does The Abortion Pill Work?

Also known as a medical abortion, the abortion pill typically involves two different drugs. The second drug is typically taken within 24 hours of the first dose.

  • 1st Dose – this drug blocks progesterone production in the woman’s body.
  • 2nd Dose – this drug is used to cause contractions to extract the pregnancy and is typically taken 24 to 48 hours after taking the first dose.

Like any drug, weight, hormones, allergies, health conditions, diseases, and the type of pregnancy can cause side effects to vary. If you have taken the first dose of the abortion pill and change your mind, contact the abortion pill reversal network to learn more about your options.

Is It Safe to Order The Abortion Pill Online?

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not recommend purchasing abortion pills online. Abortion pills purchased online may not be sourced from a vendor adhering to FDA regulations.

Fake prescription drugs sold online are typically laced with fentanyl. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) seized a record 74.5 million fake prescription pills laced with fentanyl in 2023. Seven out of every ten of these pills seized by the DEA were laced with a lethal amount of fentanyl

The DEA then warns that the only safe medications come from licensed and accredited medical professionals and pharmacies. For your health and safety, avoid purchasing the abortion pill online.

It is also imperative, for your safety and health, that you follow up with your doctor after taking the abortion pill. The abortion pill should never be administered without the oversight of a licensed medical practitioner. Please note we do not refer or provide abortion pills online or at the clinic. We provide information on pills, abortion clinic procedures, what to expect, and more.
